Working with the NPI and the new factory layout teams the role included Specifying material, tooling requirements, procurement of new machine tools and metrology equipment, develop best practice when introducing existing manufacturing techniques to the new facility. On an ongoing bias on mature products, run shop floor level activities aimed at reducing product costs and increase quality on composite assemblies, advanced machined components, fabrication and advanced tooling manufacture. On existing processes carry out variation reduction activities to reduce recurring cost of the value adding manufacturing processes. Development of advanced manufacturing metrology techniques for a new state of the art machine shop leading to reduced inspection.
US Special Purpose Vehicle Manufacturer
The project responsibilities:-
Design and manufacture of special purpose vehicles and carrying out safety case analysis. The role was to act as design authority supporting the chief Engineer . Which included making decisions on design changes, reviewing and analyzing safety case data, product design for compliance with engineering drawings, working with the shop floor technicians to discuss and overcome and technical issues with the design, company standards and customer contract requirements. Also working as part of the HAZOPS (Hazard and Operability Studies) team evaluating a new data management system. Which involved taking a full description of the process and systematically questioning every part of it to establish how deviations from the design intent can arise once identified, an assessment is made as to whether such deviations and their consequences can have a negative effect upon the safe and efficient operation of the system. If considered necessary, action is then taken to remedy the situation to the satisfaction of the Customer.
My main achievements were: To resolve design issues, raise concessions and process them quickly to allow the customer to accept delivery on time and to budget.
